You sometimes hear someone described as “larger than life.” I can’t think of a more fitting description of who Michael Fauver was to his wife and son. Losing their husband and father much too young, it was immediately clear how important he was in their lives. Very much a personification of the term patriarch, Michael was described to me as someone in which spending time with his family was the most important thing in his life. They shared some funny stories and happy moments, and his son also reminisced that his father would always say to him “If you are going to do it, do it right.” I promised that we’d take that saying to heart, and we set to work on discussing designs.
Knowing family and moments together being the most important things to Michael, it was clear to me those had to be communicated in this piece. A distinct etching of the three of them together at the peak of the monument was the ideal place to start. I was also informed of his love of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and they’d mentioned a favorite photo of them all at a Steeler’s game. I chose to add the emblem to the back of the memorial with a beautiful etched photo of them together at a game underneath, and the simple but appropriate caption of “The Three of Us Forever”.
