The Lehmkuhl family’s catholic faith is very important to them and they had one request to have a cross on the upper portion of their monument. They knew they didn’t want a standard serpentine-shaped monument like her parents behind them (Socha) but they didn’t want a modern contemporary design in their very conservative community. Anne liked the idea that the cross stand out from the background and she wished to have a classy design that would stand the test of time. The top portion of the monument is recessed and hand-tooled, and the rectangle lines are engraved deep around the cross giving a focal point for the raised cross
