Curtis loved the outdoors and was a devout Christian. The tablet (1-4 x 0-4 x 4-0) is more rock than monument, reflecting his love of the outdoors. The hole symbolizes the passage from earth to heaven. The bronze tree not only represents the woods he loved but it stands firm under harsh winds (personal struggles). Strong, simple, and full of meaning.
