Quilted Back

Categories: ,

The carpenter family was all about heirlooms. One of the things that will get passed down to the next generation is quilts. It made sense that the backside of this stone looked like one of the quilts that Linda Carpenter herself quilted. We took the original pattern for her quilt and scaled it to fit the size of stone we were going to work with, and adjusted the layout for the scale. The family name panel has a 1/4″ wide area that is blown back to separate the quilt from the panel, helping the panel stand forward and the quilt to feel as if it were in the background.

The front side features a silhouette of James’ boat and him fishing. This sits on top of the starburst line to act as the water.
