A high school in Maryland wanted to have a sculpture placed on campus where visiting schools would see it and (hopefully) where every graduating senior would take a picture. The initial idea was just a simple pedestal and the sculpture on top…but we ignored their suggestion and designed this instead. Thankfully, they loved it and we were commissioned to complete it. Mountain Ridge High School is located among some rough mining country and the school colors are red, black and white, hence the choice of Jet Mist, Barre Gray and India Red. The starburst pattern through the ‘M’ represents the rugged mountains and mining valley the school is situated in. The MINER sculpture is based off a drawing from the high school art teacher and the overall shape is simply meant to be non-traditional. The bronze is life size, and the tallest tablet stands at just over 7′ tall.
