The Veterans of Brazos Valley Memorial is a special one to our area. It marks the site of a designated veterans’ section in a local cemetery. As the section fills in with V.A. markers, the landscape will begin to look more like the national veterans’ cemeteries. To break up the standardized scenery, we created a rough rock memorial that is 8 feet in length. The rugged appearance creates a visual rest against the military markers in the area. The quote “… stood where duty required (them) to stand.” from President George H.W. Bush honors the selflessness of our veterans. Along the bottom are 7, 6-inch medallions from each branch of our military. A reflection bench and P.O.W. headstone completes the memorial and also recognizes unknown veterans.
